Teaser Tuesday: Creed's Honor by Linda Lael Miller

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading. To participate, all you have to do is the following:

  • Grab your current/upcoming read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share 2-3 "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • Be careful not to include spoilers! (You do not want to ruin the book for others.)
Share the title & author so that others who enjoy your "teaser" may add the book to their TBL pile.
"How are people supposed to tell you apart?" Sasha demanded, as though confronting an imposter.
Brody chuckled. "I'm the good-looking one," he said.
Sasha wasn't amused.
"Most kids like me," Brody said, with a twinkle in his eyes, as his gaze connected with Tricia again. "But I seem to be zero-for-zero with this one."
Sasha, Tricia noticed, was watching Joleen. "Is she your girlfriend?"
"Sasha!" Tricia said.

Tackle It Tuesday {21}: Slippery When Wet by Penny Birch

Tackle It Tuesday is a meme I started here, that's a play off of a similar meme of the same name hosted by Janice and Susan at 5 Minutes for Mom.

Here at the Book Obsessed version of this meme, the idea is to "tackle" books that have been sitting on your shelves collecting dust waiting to be read. Or to "tackle" those we've started, but yet to finish because life has gotten in the way. Also to help encourage blogger interaction, which is always a plus.

Anyone can participate!! Just link your posts in the comments section!

Slippery When Wet
Penny Birch
Shelved since December 2008
Penny Birch assembles her famous cast of naughty girls for a slippery and messy week of fun. Gabrielle, the mischievous Poppy, and their nurse Sabina receive a gift from Monty Hartle of one week at an SM boot camp in Wales. Gabrielle is doubtful, but Poppy and Sabrina are excited, so they go. The camp turns out to be a converted home hired for the purpose and is run by Mistress Kimiko, a poisonous individual with a serious uniform fetish. According to the rules, Mistress Kimiko has absolute authority, save for the mysterious Master. The girls are assigned to the kitchens, which is asking for trouble.

Review: SEALed Forever by Mary Margret Daughtridge

SEALed Forever
Mary Margret Daughtidge {Facebook}
Series: SEALed #4
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Publication Date: May 1, 2011
Mass Market Paperback {p.374}
Genre: Romance
Characters: Bronwyn Whitescarver, Garth Vale
Challenge: 100+,

He's got a living, breathing dilemma...

In the midst of running an undercover CIA mission, Navy SEAL Lt. Garth Vale finds an abandoned baby, and his superiors sure don't want to know about it. The only person who can help him is the beautiful new doctor in town, but she's got another surprise for him...

She's got a solution...at a price...

Dr. Bronwyn Whitescarver has left the frantic pace of big city ER medicine for a small town medical practice. Her bags aren't even unpacked yet when gorgeous, intense Garth Vale shows up on her doorstep in the middle of the night with a sick baby...

But his story somehow doesn't add up, and Bronwyn isn't quite sure who she's saving-the baby, or the man...

This one was a slow starter for me. It was very difficult for me to get into the story. I have not read any of the previous books in this series, so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Bronwyn is a doctor who meets SEAL Garth at her best friend JJ's wedding to fellow SEAL Davy. The two barely even noticed or acknowledge other, but some time later they meet again.

Garth finds a baby, and in need of a medical opinion he goes to the town doctor who turns out to be Bronwyn. Upon seeing her again, and spending a very short amount of time with her, he comes to the realization that she is his "mate." Not only was that an incredibly short amount of time to be believable, but the whole "mate" thing sounded like a paranormal romance. Day two and Garth was already talking about Bronwyn having his children.

I didn't have any vested interest in either one of the characters or their relationship.

Review: Breaking the Rules by Suzanne Brockmann

Breaking the Rules
Suzanne Brockmann {Facebook | Twitter}
Series: Troubleshooters #16
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Publication Date: March 22, 2011
Audio Book {18hrs}
Source: Public Library
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Characters: Eden Zanella, Izzy Zanella, Jennilyn LaMay, Dan Gillman
Challenge: 100+, Whisper Stories

Sometime in the not too distant past, the once torrid romance between Eden Gillman and her Navy SEAL husband Izzy Zanella took a drastic cooling turn. Both seem permanently wedded to mutual disdain, but then something happens that changes the chemistry: Eden discovers that her younger brother Ben is the victim of abuse by his stepfather. To rescue him from the tyrant's custody, she knows that she must reconstruct her tattered relationship with the man that she had most cherished. What she doesn't yet realize is the full saving strength of that lovers' reunion.

Once again Izzy and Eden’s relationship starts off with Eden needing Izzy’s help. This time it’s in regard to her brother, Ben. These two are in love with each other, but neither one seems to trust the other when it comes to matters of the heart. Izzy just thinks Eden’s a liar and Eden thinks Izzy just wants sex.

Dan, Eden’s older, perfect brother also makes an appearance. He too is trying to help protect Ben. His love interest, Jennilyn, is a bit skeptical about Danny’s love for her. She doesn’t want Danny to be with her just because he needs her to gain custody of Ben, but because he loves her and can’t be without her.

As these four race to save Ben from his evil stepfather, they also encounter Neisha, a teenager who’s escaped from her sex slave captors.

Breaking the Rules is action packed just like all the Troubleshooter novels. Since it’s been a while since I read the last installment, Hot Pursuit, I couldn’t really remember Jennilyn’s character. I remember that name, but I couldn’t recall how she came into the picture.

I’ve always been a fan of Izzy and Eden and this one was no exception. It’s obvious to everyone but them how much the other cares about them.

I would have however loved to see my favorite supercouple, Sam and Alyssa. My only complaint with this book is that I read it’s going to be last of the Troubleshooters. Hopefully Brockmann is just taking a short hiatus and coming back with more great action very soon.

Read by Patrick Lawlor and Renée Raudman
Duration: 18 hours
Brillance Audio

The narration: A+

I always enjoy it when there are male and female narrators reading together.

You Belong To the City ~ What's Your Song? {10}

You Belong to the City by Glenn Frey

The sun goes down, the night rolls in
You can feel it starting all over again
The moon comes up and the music calls
You're gettin' tired of starin' at the same four walls
You're out of your room and down on the street
Movin' through the crowd and the midnight heat
The traffic crawls, the sirens scream
You look at the faces, it's just like a dream
Nobody knows where you're goin',
Nobody cares where you've been
'Cause you belong to the city
You belong to the night
Livin' in a river of darkness
Beneath the neon lights
You were born in the city
Concrete under your feet
It's in your moves, it's in your blood
You're a man of the street
When you said goodbye, you were on the run
Tryin' to get away from the things you've done
Now you're back again, and you're feeling strange
So much has happened, but nothing has changed
You still don't know where you're goin',
You're still just a face in the crowd

CHORUS
It's in your blood, it's in your moves
You're a man of the street
You can feel it, you can taste it
You can see it, you can face itYou can hear it, hey, you're getting near it, hey
You wanna make it 'cause you can take itYou belong to the city, you belong to the night
You belong to the city, you belong to the night
You belong, you belong
