48 Hour Read-A-Thon

I'm attempting another Read-A-Thon!! This time it's a 48 hour read-a-thon, so maybe I'll get more accomplished this time. I'm getting started a little late, but I'm going to give it a try. I don't have all my books picked out' I'll just go on what I feel like reading.

This event is being hosted by Wallace over at Unputdownables. So are you in? Come read with me this weekend!

If You’re In:

1.Choose a few books that you will attempt to finish this weekend (Friday evening through Sunday night).
2.Post your TBR Read-a-Thon books on your blog so your readers can see what you are attempting for the weekend.
3.Challenge your readers to read along with you! (It’s OK if they don’t, but might be fun if they want to choose at least one book to participate with).
4.Join the discussion all weekend long at #bookblogchat on Twitter.
5.Post updates on your blog about what you are reading and what you have finished (full reviews can come later, but this will let your readers know what you are reading so they can either read along or look forward to your reviews!)
6.Visit other blogs that are doing the read-a-long. Post comments and follow your fellow bloggers.
7.Make sure you sign up here with Mr. Linky with a link to your first post so we can follow your progress!
8.*If you don’t have a blog but want to participate: Sign up with Mr. Linky, just don’t add a website (or you can link to your Twitter or GoodReads page).*

My first attempt (I'll add more as I go) is my current read

Please join Cherry Adair on her blog tour of Black Magic!
SHE HATES USING MAGIC . . .

Ever since the death of her parents, Sara Temple has rejected her magical gifts. Then, in a moment of extreme danger, she unknowingly sends out a telepathic cry for help—to the one man she is convinced she never wants to see again.

HE’S A POWERFUL WIZARD . . .

Jackson Slater thought he was done forever with his ex-fiancée, but when he hears her desperate plea, he teleports halfway around the world to aid her in a situation where magic has gone suddenly, brutally wrong.

THEY’VE BEEN CHOSEN TO SAVE THE WORLD . . .
But while Sara and Jack remain convinced they are completely mismatched, the Wizard Council feels otherwise. A dark force is killing some of the world’s most influential wizards, and the ex-lovers have just proved their abilities are mysteriously amplified when they work together. But with the fate of the world at stake, will the violent emotions still simmering between them drive them farther apart . . . or bring them back into each other’s arms?

Review by Jackie @ Bookaholics Romance Book Club:
Black Magic is a romance with paranormal, gothic and suspense elements. It was a fantastic fantasy novel that reminded me of the Harry Potter with a romance worth fighting for.

Jackson Slater is pulled from Western Australia in mapping and cataloging leylines by Sara Temple’s desperate pleas in his mind. In the blink of an eye, Jackson teleports himself to Venezuela only to discover a deep sense of evil. He finds himself in deep trouble as wizards are murdered and his magical powers are suddenly gone. He is forced to use normal human ways to save Sara. As a crazed, a man she’s known since childhood is about to strike her with an enormous knife.

Surviving, they are whisked to the Wizard Council. Where they are volunteered (threatened) to investigate a disease striking wizards and humans. It causes madness and irrevocable death. But working together is the last thing Jackson and Sara want. Three years ago they were on the verge of marriage when things went terribly wrong. Their tempestuous history cannot be forgotten or forgiven. But their passion soon overcomes any differences.

Who or what is causing this insanity? Jackson and Sara’s search brings them to a mythology that questions what they have always been told is true. If they are to survive, they must use their combined powers because their enemy is much closer than either suspects.

I really enjoyed Black Magic! It immediately grabs your attention. I loved the flashbacks to Jackson’s childhood and the motivation that drives him throughout the novel. The confusion and anger between Sara and Jackson is stirring and emotional. When the clues are finally connected I could feel the pain that had followed them through their relationship. I also enjoyed how Ms. Adair made magic and mythology as real as science. I’ve never been to South America, but I felt like I was there, talking to the people with their dialects, foods, environment, and history.

This was a rich and magical romance that I never wanted to end!

Calibre: Track Print Book Purchases

I found this software that tracks and organizes your ebook purchases for you. Jane@DearAuthor.com shows how to use this program for your print book puchases as well.

Here is the question posed to Jane:

Dear Jane:

You mentioned something a few weeks ago about using Calibre to track my wants and to-be-reads and purchases for my print books. Is that possible?

Review: I Love Rock N Roll by Carol Lynne

Title: I Love Rock N Roll (Bodyguards in Love, #3)
Author: Carol Lynne
Published: March 15, 2010
Publisher: Total-E-Bound
Format: E-Book
Source: Personal Library
Characters: Archer Brandt, Keifer Zane
My Rating:

Synopsis
Rock star, Keifer Zane’s homosexuality was leaked to the tabloids by ‘inside sources’. With the news of his sexual preference came threats and love-sick stalkers. In need of a bodyguard, Keifer’s manager hires Archer Adams, a man that is anything but a rock fan.

Archer enjoys the quiet life. Relaxing at his dessert home and listening to the blues are his idea of heaven. Traveling around the country on a bus, pretending to be a rock stars boy-toy, hell. Despite the loud music and long hours on the road, Archer actually likes Keifer. When disturbing gifts begin showing up in Keifer’s private spaces, Archer’s protective instincts kick in.

With their lives being played out in front of thousands of screaming fans, will the bodyguard and the rock star be able to see beyond the limelight to what is real?
Of the three books I've read so far in this series, this one is one of my favorites. Archer is Keifer's bodyguardand they are both attracted to each other, but don't act on it. Although they have to make the public believe that they are a couple and not employer and employee.

The photo shoot that they did for Rolling Stone was one of the hottest scenes I think I've read from Carol. Their relationship seemed to progress naturally and didn't feel forced. So I'm be looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Since I enjoy J.R., I thought Jessica Bird may be just as good. This book was first published in March 2004, but was re-issued July 2010.

She thought she had everything she ever wanted—

until she met the only man she’d ever need. . . .

Forced into the spotlight by her fabulous wealth, heiress Grace Hall isn’t always prepared for the consequences of her standing. When a string of attacks against the city’s most prominent women leaves Grace vulnerable, the refined beauty reluctantly hires a bodyguard. For beneath his tough exterior and dark past, there’s an inner core that is tantalizingly seductive.

John knows that when you’re a professional bodyguard, it needs to be all business. But such conduct makes for a solitary life with few ties and too many good-byes. Grace was supposed to be just another assignment on a long list. Yet there’s something about her that gets under his skin. With each passing day, the attraction grows more intense—until John is faced with a decision he never thought he’d have to make. Can he give up the only life he’s ever known to be with the only woman he’s ever loved?

      My Review:
This book is the third in a series, which I haven't read the previous two. But after reading this one I most definitely will be reading the previous books in this series. Yes, I know that's odd, reading them out of order, but I've done it before, and mostly likely will be doing it again in the future. Although I do suggest you read this particular series in order, so you'll understand the history between the lead characters.

Captured by Moonlight features an already established relationship. It's not boy meets girl and falls in love with said girl, it's boy has already met and fell in love with girl. Hence my stance on reading this series in order.

Charlotte is a detective who happens to be in love with New Orleans' biggest crime boss, Max. Max is also a shape-shifter, not just any shape-shifter, but THE SHAPE-SHIFTER. Max is very Hot (with a capital H) and Charlotte lets him know it throughout the book. She also isn't afraid to go head-to-head with Max, and I love that! Captured by Moonlight takes you on the journey of some very dangerous trackers who are out to destroy Max by any means necessary.

The story moved along smoothly; there wasn't a whole lot of lags in the storyline. I found myself peeking ahead in parts just to see what was going to happen next. (I'm impatient like that :) It's unlikely any shape-shifter novel I've read before, which is refreshing because after a while they all seem rather familiar. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this wasn't just a trilogy, that there will be more from Max and Charlotte.
