Only If For A Night ~ What's Your Song? {32}

Only If For A Night by Florence + The Machine

And I had a dream About my old school And she was there all pink and gold and glittering I threw my arms around her legs Came to weeping (came to weeping) Came to weeping (came to weeping)

And I heard your voice As clear as day And you told me I should concentrate It was all so strange And so surreal That a ghost should be so practical Only if for a night

And the only solution was to stand and fight And my body was bruised and I was set alight But you came over me like some holy rite And although I was burning, you're the only light Only if for a night

And the grass was so green against my new clothes And I did cartwheels in your honour Dancing on tiptoes My own secret ceremonials Before the service began In the graveyard doing handstands

Madam, my dear, my darling Tell me what all the sighing's about Tell me what all the sighing's about

And I heard your voice As clear as day And you told me I should concentrate It was all so strange And so surreal That a ghost should be so practical Only if for a night

Only if for a night

Dark Wolf
Christine Feehan
January 7, 2014

Dark Wolf (Dark, #25)In Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan journeyed into the heart of the Carpathians, and into the souls of two lifemates stirred by the flush of passion and the threat of annihilation. In Dark Wolf, the breathtaking story continues as the bonds of family are imperiled, and the fate of two lovers lies hidden in the seductive shadows between life and death.

Skyler Daratrazanoff always recognized the miracle that was Dimitri Tirunul, a man beyond any dream that had ever engaged her nights. But she was human. Vulnerable. He was Carpathian. Nearly immortal. She was nineteen. He was an ancient. Yet she held half his soul, the light to his darkness. Without her, he would not survive. Caught between the two warring species, Dimitri has spent centuries hunting the undead to keep his people free, and humans safe. He had survived honorably when others had chosen to give up their souls. But now, marked for extermination by the Lycans, Dimitri found himself alone, and fearing for his life. But salvation was coming…

No Lycan would ever suspect someone like Skyler to dare mount a secret rescue operation. A teenage girl. A human of untested abilities. But she had something no one else had. She was predestined for Dimitri—as he was for her. And there was nothing stronger for Skyler than her desire to see her life-dream come true. Whatever the risk.

Review: Black and Blue by Gena Showalter

Black and Blue (Otherworld Assassin, #2)
Publish Date: October 22, 2013
Mass Market Paperback {p.387}
Genre: Paranormal
Series: Otherworld Assassin #2
Source: Personal Library
Evangeline Black, Corbin Blue
He is every woman’s fantasy

Corbin Blue is a man of many talents. One of the most powerful otherworlders ever born, he is wealthy, a professional football star, and a legend in the bedroom. But only a select few know he is also a black ops agent…and there is no better killer. When he and his crew are attacked and separated, he’s forced to turn to his boss’s daughter for help—a woman with even more secrets than Blue.

She becomes his only obsession…

Evangeline Black has always been wary, guarded. No man has ever breeched her walls. Until Blue. He has never been denied something he wants, and now, he’s decided he wants her. As he sweeps her into his double life of seduction, intrigue, and danger, he helps her see beyond the darkness of her own past. But as an enemy closes in, Blue will have to let Evie go to keep her safe—even though he'd rather die than live without her…

This story started out slow and I never really got into. Blue and Evie had some very funny moments together, but I never truly connected with either one of them. It was a struggle just to finish it.

Evie constantly berated Blue for being a "man-whore" but in the same time wanted to be one of his long list of many. Beyond their connection of Michael, Evie's father and Blue's boss, they have absolutely nothing in common. They had sex a couple of times and the rest of the story was just page fillers.

The communication, or speech, between the two main characters was very reminiscent of that of my junior high cousins. "Amazeballs" "Gorge" "Snugs" Very troubling for the speech of the future. Not the best I've read from this author.

It Goes Like This ~ What's Your Song {31}

It Goes Like This by Thomas Rhett
Hey girl, you make me wanna write a song, Sit you down, I'll sing it to you all night long, I've had a melody in my head Since she walked in here and knocked me dead. Yeah girl, you make me wanna write a song

And it goes like ooh, What I wouldn't do To write my name on your heart, Get you wrapped in my arms Baby all around you. And it goes like hey, Girl I'm blown away, Yeah it starts with a smile and it ends with an all night long slow kiss, Yeah it goes like this.

Hey girl, you make me wanna drive you home, Get you outta here and get you all alone. I don't know what it is about you, baby, But I'm all messed up and it might sound crazy, But you make me wanna write a song.

And it goes like ooh, What I wouldn't do, To write my name on your heart, Get you wrapped in my arms Baby all around you. And it goes like hey, Girl I'm blown away, Yeah it starts with a smile and it ends with an all night long slow kiss, Yeah it goes like this.

Lookin' at you, lookin' at me that way, Makes me wanna grab my old guitar and play

Something like ooh, What I wouldn't do, To write my name on your heart, Get you wrapped in my arms Baby all around you. And it goes like hey, Girl I'm blown away, Yeah it starts with a smile and it ends with an all night long slow kiss, Yeah it goes like this

And it goes like ooh, And it goes like hey, And it ends with a kiss, Yeah it goes like this.

Book Beginning:
Corbin Blue tucked his girlfriend against his side, smiled his patented bedroom smile, and faced the cameras, playing the part of irreverent debaucher to perfection.

Friday 56:
Plant life was compromised, animals were almost wiped out, and huge bodies of water either dried up or turned to sludge. Now all three were expensive commodities.

Review: Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren

Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1)
Publish Date: February 12, 2013
Trade Paperback {p.305}
Genre: New Adult
Series: Beautiful Bastard #1
Source: Personal Library
Chloe Mills, Bennett Ryan

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He's exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family's massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who'd been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he's never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe's so tempting he's willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they're willing to lose in order to win each other.

Chloe and Bennett were always arguing with one another, even when they were having sex. I believe that's what kept it interesting, the fact that the bickering didn't stop immediately when they jumped into bed together. And it was a long time into the book before they actually did do it in a bed.

From the start I could see why Chloe didn't like Bennett, because he was a jerk. But it wasn't immediately clear as to why he would go out of his way to be such a jerk toward her.

The overall book was more sex than story, but the authors managed to make it work. Even with Bennett being a jerk, he never became an unlikable character. To me, that was because he never seemed to be malicious in his behavior, just more like he was purposely doing it to get a rise out of her. Like the little boy in elementary school picking at the little girl he had a crush on.

The banter between these two was so funny and entertaining. As a reader I couldn't help but to root for these two to get their stuff together and make it work.

How to Run With a Naked Werewolf
Molly Harper
December 31, 2013

How To Run With A Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #3)Caleb Graham is a werewolf by nature, a tracker by profession. He uses his “extra gifts” to find people, and not always in the most legal or ethical manner. He doesn't care what they've done, or who wants them found, as long as his considerable fee is paid. He likes his life simple and uncomplicated.

Anna Moder, former physician to Caleb’s pack, happens across Caleb during a particularly violent “negotiation” that has left him bloodied and unconscious. She helps him, despite the fact that he’s cost her a car, so he insists that she stay with him on the road for a while. As they grow closer, Anna looks past the gruff exterior and and the questionable job to thoroughly decent werewolf underneath.

Anna – who is careful to edit her involvement with Caleb’s pack from their conversations – doesn't talk about why a nice girl wants to live in the middle of frozen nowhere, but she’s obviously on the run from something. When Anna’s past collides with Caleb’s current assignment from one of his sleazier contacts, Caleb finally has to make a choice—protect his job…or his potential mate?

Review: Theirs to Keep by Maya Banks

Theirs to Keep (Tangled Hearts Trilogy, #1)
Publish Date: October 22, 2012
Trade Paperback {p.229}
Genre: Erotica, Ménage
Series: Tangled Hearts #1
Source: Personal Library
Elle, Merrick Sullivan, Cade Walker
When Cade Walker and Merrick Sullivan find Elle hiding in the cabinet of a gun store, they know they can’t just walk away from the fragile woman with no memory of who she is or who tried to kill her. Merrick is training for the title shot in the heavyweight division as a mixed martial artist and can’t afford distractions, but neither can he turn his back on the woman who tugs at his heartstrings.

Elle feels safe with her two protectors, and the longer she spends with them, the more she realizes that she has no desire to remember her past. Not when it could compromise her future with Cade and Merrick.

Cade has his own set of concerns when it comes to Elle, and it quickly becomes clear to the two men that for the first time in their friendship, a woman is coming between them. But what if they just kept her there? Between them. Where she belongs.
Absolute disappointment.

I've never really been a fan of the whole insta-love, but this one was a bit much. When they first lay eyes on her, their in love. Another major disappointment was the ménage. There was truly no point in it, because the story focused on Merrick and Elle. Cade was just a hanger on with no real purpose to the overall story. That was sad; I felt so bad for him because I didn't feel the love for him from Elle.

There was no true chemistry between any of them, but the author majorly favored Merrick of the two men. The fact that not one of them was even a little bit curious as to who this woman was before trying to rush her down the aisle was totally ludicrous. It never occurred to them that this woman could already be married or could be someone's mother!?! Craziness! It was like they found a lost puppy and claimed it for their own.

I'm a huge Maya Banks fan, as I pre-ordered this book just because it was her, but after reading it, I'm regretting that decision. It was a poor rehash of Colters'. I loved Colters' Woman, but this wasn't the best. With that being said, the characters weren't horrible people, they just had no chemistry between them. And poor Cade, he had no point whatsoever.

Find A Way ~ What's Your Song? {30}

Find A Way by Safetysuit

Hold on, what's the rush, what's the rush we're not done are we Cause I don't need to change this atmosphere we've made if You can stay one more hour, can you stay one more hour

You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me You know I'm gonna find a time to catch your hand and make you stay

Hold on, I'll be here when it's all done you know Cause what's the point in chasing if I can't enjoy your face and We can't be wrong tonight, can we be wrong tonight

You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me You know I'm gonna find a time to catch your hand and make you stay I don't care what clothes you wear, it's time to love and I don't care You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me

And if I was running, you'd be the one who I would be running to And if I was crying, you would be lining the cloud that would pull me through And if I was scared, then I would be glad to tell you and walk away But I am not lying, I am just trying to find my way in to you

You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me You know I'm gonna find a time to catch your hand and make you stay I don't care what clothes you wear, it's time to love and I don't care You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me

If I was running If I was crying If I was scared You know I'm gonna find a way to let you have your way with me

Review: Foreplay by Sophie Jordan

Foreplay (The Ivy Chronicles, #1)
Publish Date: November 5, 2013
Trade Paperback {p.294}
Genre: New Adult
Series: The Ivy Chronicles #1
Source: Publisher
Pepper, Reece Mulvaney
Before she goes after the life she’s always wanted, she’s about to find the one she needs.

Pepper has been hopelessly in love with her best friend’s brother, Hunter, for like ever. He’s the key to everything she’s always craved: security, stability, family. But she needs Hunter to notice her as more than just a friend. Even though she’s kissed exactly one guy, she has just the plan to go from novice to rock star in the bedroom—take a few pointers from someone who knows what he’s doing.

Her college roommates have the perfect teacher in mind. But bartender Reece is nothing like the player Pepper expects. Yes, he’s beyond gorgeous, but he’s also dangerous, deep—with a troubled past. Soon what started as lessons in attraction are turning both their worlds around, and showing just what can happen when you go past foreplay and get to what’s real…

From the moment I picked up this book, I couldn't put it down. I connected with Pepper when it came to her shyness with the opposite sex. It was like reading my own story in that aspect.

I really enjoyed both characters on their own as well as together. Although at times, Pepper and I had our moments, there wasn't a single moment I wasn't feeling Reece. Throughout the entire story he remained a stand-up, truly likable character. Reece is by far one of my favorite New Adult males.

Pepper and her fixation on Hunter, her best friend's brother, was the only sticking point for me. I felt that she knew she was thinking about Reece more than she was Hunter now, but she still refused to let it go and commit to Reece. I guess the author had to continue with that to provide a bit of conflict.

The overall pace of the story was great, which meant I was never bored and was counting down the minutes until I could pick it back up again. (silly things like my having to go work got in the way of my reading) Pepper's honesty and Reece's mystery kept me completely enthralled with them.

Foreplay was such an entertaining, wonderfully written story, that after reading this book, I will definitely have to add Sophie Jordan to my automatic buy list.

Review: Bared to You by Sylvia Day

Bared to You (Crossfire, #1)

Genre: Erotica

Eva Trammell, Gideon Cross

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness… He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily… Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires. The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

I was so excited to read this series because I heard such great things about it. If this first installment is any indication, I hope it gets better from here.

Eva's constant running away from situations become entirely too much. Yes, she acknowledged that she did run when situations became to much instead of dealing with them, but she did nothing to try and correct it. And that simple fact is why I quickly became bored with the whole story.

Both Eva and Gideon had messed up childhoods. We find out Eva's story early on in their relationship, but Gideon never truly shared the extent of his. We received glimpses of what may have happened and were left to draw our own conclusions.

They were both extremely jealous people who didn't have much going on with each other outside of sex. I never really warmed to Eva, her whole wishy-washy personality made it very difficult. Gideon was okay, I found that I kept reading hoping that the mystery of him would be uncovered.

Most likely I will be continuing on with the series because I already bought all three books before reading the first one. Although I won't be in a major hurry to do so.
