Review: Just a Taste of Me by Stormy Glenn

Just a Taste of Me
Stormy Glenn {Blog | Facebook | Myspace | Twitter}
Series: Wolf Creek Pack
Publisher: Siren Publishing
Publication Date: July 1, 2009
Kindle
Genre: LGBT, Paranormal
Characters: Quilliam Reece, Keeley
Challenge: 100+, Ebook, M/M
My Rating:

Reece knows Keeley is his mate the moment he meets him. But Keeley is not only human, he's a man.

Alpha of his own pack for just three months, having a man for a mate is a headache Reece doesn't need. But not claiming his mate is not an option. However, Keeley is unlike any man he has ever met, from the top of his gorgeous honey blond hair to the bottom of his fire engine red painted toenails, Keeley is hot!

Reece becomes even more enchanted with his new mate when Keeley loses his temper with Reece and hits him with a cookie sheet. Just when Reece accepts being mated to a man and starts to care for him, Keeley is attacked and nearly dies. Reece discovers a plot that involves more than just the death of his mate, but also his entire pack.

Can Reece save Keeley and his pack, or will he have to choose between them?

Reece is the Alpha of his pack, so image his surprise to realize his mate is Keeley, a petite little man. Reece has been living his life up to this point as a straight man, so he doesn’t understand why he is fated to be with a man.

So when Keeley comes into the bar that Reece happens to be, he can’t seem to take his eyes off of him. And when trouble follows Keeley into the restroom, Reece follows to protect his future mate.

The whole mating process, Keeley easily complies with, letting Reece bite him as well as drinking his blood in return. No questions asked. And at this point neither of them knows the others name.

The two of them feel their way around each other in this relationship. Reece having never been with a man before, is untrained in the aspects of lovemaking with a man and has to rely on Keeley to show him the ropes. Keeley on the other hand is constantly getting upset and offended by everything Reece says or does, which leads to a lot of time in which Keeley spent sulking.

The two finally get it together and make a rather enjoyable read. The secondary characters prove to be of great interest as well.

Musical Monday {1}: Hurt So Good

So what's Musical Monday? It's a weekly meme hosted by Tipsy Reader. With this meme, you pick the book you are currently reading, or just finished, and match it with it's musical mate. Think, "if this book had a soundtrack, what would be the theme song?"

The Book:
Scarred by Carol Lynne

The Song:
Hurts So Good by John Mellencamp

+ show lyrics

The Reason:
I picked this song because the book features domestic violence. Not just physical but also emotional. It was this song or You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi. But in the end, I thought that the title of the song would be fitting because of the "hurt" inflicted by so-called loved ones. I know the song isn't about that, but the title is what I was going for.

Chunkster Challenge 2011

February 1, 2011 - January 31, 2012

There are many different levels to this challenge, but I'm going to aim for The Plump Primer, which is six books over the next twelve months. I'm hoping this challenge will motivate me to move the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series off my TBR pile.

1. Awaken the Highland Warrior by Anita Clenney
2. When You Dare by Lori Foster
3. Savor the Danger by Lori Foster
4. Until There Was You by Kristan Higgins
5. Lethal by Sandra Brown
6.

Review: Don't Make Me Choose Between You and My Shoes by Dixie Cash

Don't Make Me Choose Between You and My Shoes
Dixie Cash {Myspace}
Series: Domestic Equalizers #4
Publisher: Recorded Books
Publication Date: June 1, 2008
Audio Book {8 hrs}
Source: Public Library
Genre: Contemporary
Characters: Debbie Sue Overstreet, Edwina Perkins-Martin
Challenge: 50 States, Whisper Stories
My Rating:

New York City is miles from Salt Lick, Texas, in more ways than one, but Debbie Sue Overstreet and Edwina Perkins-Martin are rarin' to go. The best friends/beauty shop owners/private-eye partners have been offered an all-expense-paid trip to the National Association of Private Investigators convention in the Big Apple. Debbie Sue sees the invitation as validation, but Edwina has one goal: to get her feet into a pair of super-glam designer shoes, not easily had back home. Yee-haw!

As a sign of things to come, the two Texas tornadoes don't even get out of the state without causing pandemonium at the Dallas airport. And once they land in the Big City they meet Celina, a small-town librarian who's broke and bereft from getting robbed, and Cher, an amiable "working girl" with a heart of gold. Taking them under their wings, they head right for trouble as Edwina nearly starts a riot in the hotel bar.

But the Big Apple hasn't seen nothin' yet! While helping shy Celina hook up with a hunky young police detective, the Domestic Equalizers bumble their way into a murder investigation that could end up leaving Debbie Sue deceased and Edwina stone-cold in her new Jimmy Choos!
Debbie Sue and Edwina head to the Big Apple to speak about their PI skills at a national conference. Of course trouble and mayhem follow in their wake.

Edwina, afraid of flying, has to get overly medicated for the big trip. She causes great embarrassment to herself and "Deputy Do," I mean Debbie Sue, before they even set foot on the plane.

When they do arrive in NYC they find that someone is killing prostitutes. Leave it to Edwina to befriend one. Edwina strikes up a conversation with working girl, Cher, who mistakes Edwina as a fellow pro. Edwina and her fashionable attire, who could blame Cher for thinking Edwina a hooker.

Fellow Texan from Dime Box, Celina, meets Edwina and Debbie Sue at the conference and becomes roommates. While Selena is becoming involved with one of New York's Finest, Debbie Sue and Edwina are dragging her into all kinds of mess. So when the Domestic Equalizers hear a murder taking place in the hotel room next door and no one believes them, they have no choice but to take matters into their own hands.

This is another laugh a minute riot by Dixie Cash. It wasn't as good as Since You're Leaving Anyway, Take Out the Trash, but hilarious all the same.

Read by Peggity Price
Duration: 6 hours

The narrator took some getting used to when I first started this series, but now that this is book #4,  she's growing on me. The accents that she bring to Debbie Sue and Edwina are half the laughs. Just hearing her do the witty banter of these two with that Texas twang is an added bonus.
