Review: Chained by Night by Larissa Ione

Chained by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire, #2)Publish Date: September 30, 2014
Mass Market Paperback {p.}
Genre: Paranormal
Series: MoonBound Clan Vampire #2
Source: Publisher
Aylin, Hunter
THE FUTURE OF HIS TRIBE Leader of the vampire clan MoonBound, Hunter will do what he must to save his people from extinction—or worse, a torturous eternity as vampire slaves and subjects of human experimentation. To keep his enemies at bay, he has agreed to mate a rival clan leader’s daughter in return for peace between the clans and an ally in the looming war with the humans.

THE LOVER OF HIS SOUL But survival comes at a price. First, Hunter must break an ancient curse by successfully negotiating three deadly tests. Then he must resist the searing passions of the gorgeous vampire warrior he despises but is bound to mate. Will Hunter stay true to his word? Or will he risk everything for the woman he really loves: the vampire seductress’s identical twin sister?

It took me some time to get into this story, and when I did, it seemed to drag on in parts a bit unnecessarily. With that said, I still enjoyed the majority of the book. I really liked the interaction between Aylin and Hunter. All her live she'd been below everyone else in the pecking order, but when she was with Hunter you would never know it. She spoke her mind with Hunter, without fear of reprimand.

The chemistry between the two of them pretty much began at first sight of each other. Even with that being the case, I never felt that their chemistry was forced. Hunter was a great leader for the clan in the aspect that everyone was equal, no one person was better than the other because of issues beyond their control.

I am interested to see how the clan progresses, especially Nicole and Riker and Myne. Outside of Aylin and Hunter, they were the ones I became most invested in. Sam was also an interesting character. He was not at all what I was expecting. The overall series seems promising, but it's not one that I'll be impatiently waiting for.

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by A Few More Pages. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence, or two, of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

Book Beginnings:
There were three things Wraith did well; hunt, fight, and fuck. He was going to do all three tonight.

Friday 56:
Wraith allowed himself a moment to revel in his victory but he didn't get cocky. Still, the evidence of Serena's attraction surrounded him: a faint, musky aroma of arousal mixed with her own clean, vanilla-almond scent. Oh, yeah, she wanted him.

Review: Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione

Title: Desire Unchained (Demonica, #2)
Author: Larissa Ione
Published: March 1, 2009
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Pages: 380
Source: Personal Library
Characters: Runa Wagner, Shade
My Rating:

Synopsis

Pleasure is their ultimate weapon . . .

Runa Wagner never meant to fall in love with the sexy stranger who seemed to know her every deepest desire. But she couldn't resist the unbelievable passion that burned between them, a passion that died when she discovered his betrayal and found herself forever changed. Now, determined to make Shade pay for the transformation that haunts her, Runa searches for him, only to be taken prisoner by his darkest enemy.

A Seminus Demon with a love-curse that threatens him with eternal torment, Shade hoped he'd seen the last of Runa and her irresistible charm. But when he wakes up in a dank dungeon chained next to an enraged and mysteriously powerful Runa, he realizes that her effect on him is more dangerous than ever.

As their captor casts a spell that bonds them as lifemates, Shade and Runa must fight for their lives and their hearts-or succumb to a madman's evil plans.
This one was quite different from the first book in the series. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this one as well, but it was a bit darker than Pleasure Unbound. There was always something going on, and seemed a little more fast-paced the the first one.

Shade and Runa have a history together from the previous book. She holds Shade partially responsible for her current warewolf condition. I love these two together; she's strong, she's capable, and doesn't just blindly follow whatever Shade tells her. They do however discover in this one who is responsible for the all the Ghouls and harvesting.

Wraith as usual is a blast, and I can't wait to see the woman who will be mated with him for the next 600 years. And I'm totally pulling for Gem to get her man; I'm hoping they get their own book.

Review: Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione

Title: Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1)
Author: Larissa Ione
Published: July 1, 2008
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Pages: 389
Source: Personal Library
Characters: Tayla Mancuso, Eidolon
My Rating:

Synopsis
In a place where ecstasy can cost you your life...

She's a demon-slayer who hungers for sensual pleasure--but fears it will always be denied her. Until Tayla Mancuso lands in a hospital run by demons in disguise, and the head doctor, Eidolon, makes her body burn with unslakable desire. But to prove her ultimate loyalty to her peers, she must betray the surgeon who saved her life.

Two lovers will dare to risk all.

Eidolon cannot resist this fiery, dangerous woman who fills him with both rage and passion. Not only is she his avowed enemy, but she could very well be the hunter who has been preying upon his people. Torn between his need for the truth and his desire to find his perfect mate before a horrific transformation claims him forever, Eidolon will dare the unthinkable--and let Tayla possess him, body and soul...

First let me start by saying that I happened to notice from my Paperback Swap account, that this book has been sitting in my TBR pile 3 months shy of 2 years. Yes, two years. And boy was I missing out. But in a way I'm kind of glad that I waited so long to read it, so there won't be such a huge wait in between waiting for the next release in the series. If I'm correct, books 1-4 are already released with book 5 due out August 24. Or otherwise I'd be sitting around fienin' for the next one in the series like I'm currently doing with Feehan's Carpathians.

Now to get back on track with the review. Tayla starts out the believe that all demons are bad, pretty much the same belief any other sane human being would have. Until she meets Eidolon. She's a slayer, he's a demon. Sound familiar? Think back to the late 1990s. You guessed it, Buffy and Angel!

I thought about giving it 4 instead of 5 butterflies, because Tayla annoyed me in parts of the story. But hey, if I was in that situation faced with demons, I'm sure I would probably annoy myself. The whole part (without giving too much away) with her believing that the Aegis would give her a cellphone to go back to the hospital with because it had some "super signal" didn't quite jive as on the up-and-up. But of course, she fell for it. But she did turn her character around; I guess you don't want to make them too perfect, because no one would believe that. There is a little twist concerning Tayla, but I won't get into that. You'll have to read the story to find out for yourselves. But I am so looking forward to seeing what develops between Gem and the love of her life.

Larissa is a new author to me, but I most definitely will be checking out the rest of the series. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good paranormal romance. And if Eidolon and his brothers are as yummy as Ms. Ione made them out to be, I can see why a human female would crawl in to bed with them. I don't think I would kick them out of my bed. :)

"Parking lot?" Sounded so normal.

"You were expecting to ride out on a river of fire? On hellhounds, maybe?"

Heat seared her cheeks, because that was exactly what she'd been thinking. "No."
