Blog Tour: Last To Die by Kate Brady

A ruthless killer hides in plain sight, someone no one believes is capable of murder. Within a week, six women will be murdered, all punished for their dark pasts. Detective Dani Cole is determined to track down this serial killer whose victims include a young woman she pulled out of a life of crime. Her investigation leads her to a photography foundation and the renowned photographer Mitch Sheridan, a man she she fell in love with years ago but has tried to forget. Dani and Mitch are instantly attracted to each other again, though their troubled pasts keep them from getting too close. Together, through the course of the investigation, they unearth a dark chain of deception that leads to a killer who is closer than they think.

About the Author:
Kate Brady began writing fiction when her doctoral research became tedious. For years, she wrote in the closet, penning several novels that—thankfully—remain there. Now, she leads a double life. Some days, she’s a choral conductor and professor of music education. Other days, she plays with imaginary people on her computer.

Kate lives in Atlanta with her husband, two children, and an array of furry, feathery, and scaly things. When she has time to read, her nose is most often found in a police story or gourmet cooking magazine! She is currently working on her next novel.

Fun Facts:

When investigating the possibilities for an acid for a villain to use, I had to “come clean” with colleagues in the department of chemistry at the university where I teach, and reveal that in my other life, I write novels

I didn’t intend to have a dog in this book but gave one to Dani, the heroine, after my own beloved and elderly dog passed away. Dani needed a softer side, I was apparently feeling lonely for her, and besides, what better way to show heart than to adopt a beat-up pit bull?

The physical building on which the JMS Foundation is based is an actual castle in the town where I grew up. When I was a kid, it was a family home, and we were in awe that it had a legitimate ballroom. Now, it’s a fine arts facility known as The Arts Castle.

Review: Not Another Bad Date by Rachel Gibson

Title: Not Another Bad Date
Series: Writer Friends #4
Published: May 2008
Publisher: HarperCollins
Source: Public Library
Format: Audio Book
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Characters: Adele Harris, Zach Zemaitis
My Rating:

Heat Level: 2/5
Synopsis:
What does a gal have to do to get a good date in this town?

Adele Harris can't even begin to answer that question. She's had so many lousy dates that she's sure she's cursed. Why else would every man she goes out with suddenly act like he's lost his mind—and his manners? Adele thought life couldn't get any more confusing . . . until she learns the marriage of her seemingly Miss Perfect sister is on the rocks. So she goes back to their hometown to give her a shoulder to cry on, only to run smack into Zach Zemaitis . . . the one who got away.

Texans love God, family, and football, though not always in that order

Zach, a former pro star, knows all about football. As for the other two, well, he's doing his best. But when Adele comes charging back into his life—still all lush curves and beautiful, big blue eyes—he wonders if his best is good enough. After all, he did her wrong. Can a woman with her track record ever really believe that he's serious this time . . . or is he destined to be another bad date?
This was my first Rachel Gibson book, and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. I went into this audiobook thinking it would be a quick lite listen to pass the time.

Adele, who has been cursed with bad dates, moves back to Texas to care for her pregnant sister and runs into her first love from college, Zach. Adele is indeed cursed with bad dates caused by her high school nemesis, who also happens to be Zach's deceased wife Devon. Zach seems to be the only man the curse does not work on. So all of Devon's plotting against Adele backfires in the end of course. She does go on a couple of bad dates while in Texas, with one the most memorable dates suggesting that she call up some of her girlfriends so they can make a "skin sandwich" in which he would provide the meat.

The story kept great pace and kept me laughing along the way. some of which could be attributed to the narrator and the Texas accent she tried to provide. Not a bad first Rachel Gibson read for me, so I'll be reading more from her soon.
