Review: Rock Hard by Olivia Cunning

Rock Hard
Olivia Cunning
Series: Sinners on Tour #2
Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca
Publication Date: April 1, 2011
Trade Paperback {p.431}
Source: Publisher
Genre: Contemporary, Erotic
Characters: Jessica Chase, Sedric Lionheart
Challenge: 100+
My Rating:

An ultimatum can break your heart....

Every night lead singer, Sed Lionheart whips thousands of women into a frenzy with his voice alone. But the stage is the only place Sed feels any passion since he lost Jessica...

If you’re not willing to break all the rules...

It shattered her heart, but law student Jessica broke off her engagement to Sed, determined to be successful on her own terms. But no other man can ever hold a candle to Sed...

Then a chance meeting and tortuously close quarters lead to uncontrollable flares of passion and rediscovery of their unique penchant for public encounters. Now, in addition to the risk of mutual heartbreak every time they get together, they’re in danger of truly scandalous public exposure...

Sedric Lionheart was the last person Jessica expected to see while she was working as a stripper at Paradise Found. Jessica and Sed haven’t seen each other since she walked out on him two years ago after calling off their engagement. When Sed causes a fight and gets Jessica fired, she has no other option but to take a job touring with Sed and the rest of the Sinners for the summer.

These two were constantly having wild, hot sex. There was no lack of chemistry with these two. And the whole time, Jessica kept proclaiming it was just sex and that she hated Sed. But then on the other hand, she was majorly possessive and jealous when it came to Sed.

With all the sex Sed and Jessica were having you would think that there wouldn’t be much let for character development, but that definitely wasn’t the case. All the characters were well developed and felt like actual people that you would want to spend time.

At times though, I didn’t really care for Jessica. Mostly because I didn’t like how she was treating Sed. I didn’t like that she set out to purposely hurt him, when it was evident to everyone that he loved her. But even through it all, I was genuinely rooting for them and wanted them to finally get their happy ending.

Of all the secondary characters, I really loved Trey and Eric. Those two definitely kept me entertained outside of Sed and Jessica. Jace however is still a bit of a mystery to me. Myrna and Brian disappointed me when it came to how they handled the situation regarding Trey. I guess I just expected better from these two.

Rock Hard is a hot, steamy read full of great, lovable men. These men are strong, sexy rockers who are solid, caring men when it comes to their women. This was a great addition to the series, and I anxiously await the next installment.

Strip Me ~ What's Your Song? {3}

Strip Me by Natasha Bedingfield

La la la la la la
Everyday I fight for
All my future somethings
A thousand little awards
I have to choose between
I could spend a lifetime
Earning things I don't need
That's like chasing rainbows
And coming home empty
And if you strip me,
Strip it all away
If you strip me,
What would you find
If you strip me,
Strip it all away
I'll be alright

Take what you want
Steal my pride
Build me up
Or cut me down to size
Shut me out
But I'll just scream
I'm only one voice in a million
But you ain't taking that from me
Oh oh no you ain't taking that from me [x4]

I don't need a microphone
To say what I been thinking
My heart is like a loudspeaker
That's always on eleven
And if you strip me,
Strip it all away
If you strip me,
What would you find
If you strip me,
Strip it all away
I'm still the same

Take what you want
Steal my pride
Build me up
Or cut me down to size
Shut me out
But I'll just scream
I'm only one voice in a million
But you ain't taking that from me
Oh oh no you ain't taking that from me [x4]

Cause when it all boils down
At the end of the day
It's what you do and say
That makes you who you are
Makes you think about,
Think about it
Doesn't it
Sometimes all it takes is one voice

Take what you want
Steal my pride
Build me up
Or cut me down to size
Shut me out
But I'll just scream
I'm only one voice in a million
But you ain't taking that from me
Oh oh no you ain't taking that from me [x4]

Waiting on Wednesday {43}: Men Out of Uniform

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine. It is showcases upcoming releases of books that I'm looking forward to. It is somewhat similar to one of my previous posts, Anxiously Awaiting. {Button courtesy of Bewitched Bookworms}

Men Out of Uniform
Maya Banks
October 2011

The hottest thing about a man in uniform is imagining him out of it...

They may enforce the rules, but when men in uniform are off duty and under the covers, they're experts at breaking them. In this searingly sexy anthology, popular authors Maya BanksSylvia Day, and Karin Tabke present men in uniform—unzipped...

In Maya Banks's Soul Possession, Jessie spends a hot night with two sexy-as-sin detectives, only to be accused of murder the very next day. But when Jessie becomes the target of a serial killer, her two detectives will risk everything to have her back in their arms--and in their bed...

It's time for protected witness Layla Creed to come out of hiding and take the stand in Taking the Heat by Sylvia Day. Layla has only three days to reconnect with federal marshal Brian Simmons--and slake the white-hot lust that has simmered between them for years...

Karin Tabke's Wanted follows the X-rated exploits of bad-boy cop Colin Daniels and the soon-to-be-ex-wife of a mob boss. He's been hired to guard her body, but it drives him to distraction instead, putting his career--and his life--on the line...

Teaser Tuesday: How To Flirt With a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading. To participate, all you have to do is the following:

  • Grab your current/upcoming read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share 2-3 "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • Be careful not to include spoilers! (You do not want to ruin the book for others.)
Share the title & author so that others who enjoy your "teaser" may add the book to their TBL pile.
"Evie's a disaster in the kitchen," Pete explained to me, a conspiratorial note in his voice. "She started a fire boiling eggs once."

"But Cooper said to try her pie," I whispered. "He said it was a life changer."

"Well, being trapped on the can for a week probably would change your life," Pete conceded. My jaw dropped, and I glared at Cooper.

Tackle It Tuesday {13}: Touch the Dark by Karen Chance

Tackle It Tuesday is a meme I started here, that's a play off of a similar meme of the same name hosted by Janice and Susan at 5 Minutes for Mom.

Here at the Book Obsessed version of this meme, the idea is to "tackle" books that have been sitting on your shelves collecting dust waiting to be read. Or to "tackle" those we've started, but yet to finish because life has gotten in the way. Also to help encourage blogger interaction, which is always a plus.

Anyone can participate!! Just link your posts in the comments section!

Touch the Dark
Karen Chance
Shelved since October 2008

Cassie Palmer, a powerful clairvoyant who works part-time at an Atlanta club reading Tarot cards, is finding it difficult to escape her past. Orphaned at a young age and brought up by the undead, Cassie has the ability to communicate with the spirit realm, and her powers were abused time and time again by a ruthless master vampire named Tony. It's been three years since Cassie -- a self-described "ghost magnet" -- has been free of the centuries-old bloodsucker, but now he's back and eager to reclaim his human possession. Forced to turn to the Senate (a group of "really old vamps" who make laws for the supernatural community) for protection, Cassie is thrown into a complex conflict where control of the entire supernatural world is at stake. Rasputin (yes, the Mad Monk himself), a power-hungry vampire, is killing off the Senate members one by one. Aided by some impressive allies -- including Dracula's older brother, Mircea -- Cassie must use everything in her paranormal arsenal to fight the encroaching evil -- and somehow stay alive.

Review: Tangled Up In You by Rachel Gibson

Tangled Up In You
Rachel Gibson {Blog | Facebook | Myspace}
Series: Writer Friends #3
Publisher: Avon
Publication Date: July 31, 2007
Audio Book {9 hrs}
Source: Public Library
Genre: Contemporary
Characters: Madeline Jones, Mick Hennessey
Challenge: 100+, Whisper Stories
My Rating:

Maddie is determined to uncover the untold story about the town's sordid past—her past. As a child, Maddie lost everything, and now she's back at the scene of the scandal—a local establishment that's always belonged to the Hennessys—determined to uncover the truth, and nothing is going to stand in her way. Especially not a black-haired, blue-eyed Hennessy.

Everyone in Truly knows that the Hennessy men are irresistible, and the current owner, Mick, is no exception. His late father was a skirt-chasing heartbreaker who ended up causing disaster for two families. So far, Mick's managed to keep the ladies in line, but when he claps eyes on Maddie, with her luscious curves and tempting lips, he can't resist getting tangled up with her.

But Maddie is keeping secrets, not the least of which is her true reason for being in town. And when Mick discovers what‘s really going on, there is going to be a whole lot of trouble in Truly.

Madeline goes to Truly, Idaho in an effort to get answers about her mother’s death for her true crime novel. There she meets the children of the man her mother was having an affair with, whose wife killed them both and then herself.

Maddie doesn’t expect to like Mick because she assumes he’s just like his cheating father. But after spending time with him, she not only likes him, but starts to love him.

Mick and his sister Meg seem to have two totally different ways of dealing with what their mother did all those years ago. Meg is constantly reliving it, trying to justify her mother’s actions, while Mick wants to forget it ever happened. It isn’t until he finds out the true identity of Maddie, that she is the daughter of the “waitress” that his mother killed for sleeping with his father that Mick starts to really deal with what happened to his parents.

I really liked Maddie. She was very likeable and Ms. Gibson did a great job in getting the reader to know Maddie. I enjoyed her quirky, funny analogies and sense of humor. She was very independent and let Mick know from the start that she wasn’t looking for the white picket fence of happily ever after.

Rachel Gibson’s style of writing keeps you fully engrossed in the story, but laughing along the way.

Read by Nicole Poole
Duration: 9 hours

The narrator had a somewhat dry tone, but it went with some of the dry humor of the story. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the narrator, but she’s not one of those chipper upbeat narrators. Her tone reminds me a little of the late Kate Fleming.

Musical Monday {9}: Doin It

So what's Musical Monday? It's a weekly meme hosted by Tipsy Reader. With this meme, you pick the book you are currently reading, or just finished, and match it with it's musical mate. Think, "if this book had a soundtrack, what would be the theme song?"

The Book:
Rock Hard by Olivia Cunning

The Song:

Doin It by LL Cool J

+ show lyrics

The Reason:
None other than Sed and Jessica were "doing it" any and everywhere they could.
