Fallen is the first YA novel I've read since reading Twilight, and since I didn't enjoy that one, I didn't have high hopes for Fallen either. But it seemed like everyone was reading it and giving it rave reviews. So I decided I'd give it a try.
Luce meets this guy Daniel, while away at Sword & Cross boarding school, that she is instantly drawn to and feels like she knows him from somewhere but just can't put her finger on it. Of course Daniel rejects her at every turn, while yet another guy, Cam, is constantly trying to win her affection. Sometimes he seems like he's trying a little too hard.
Luce just comes across to me as a plain and quite boring one-dimensional character. It took me a while to finish this book because I just wasn't interested. I still have no clue what the point was nor do I really care. I thought maybe it was the age gap thing (Luce and all the characters being teens and myself being an adult) but a lot of the reviews of this book are adults, so it couldn't be that.
I tended to get tired of hearing Luce whine about Daniel throughout the entire book. It started to get somewhat repetitive. The whole thing with the shadows following her was just plain weird and added absolutely nothing to the overall story.
The only thing I did end up caring about in Fallen was the fact that Penn was killed; I hated that. She was the only bright spot in the book. More than likely I will not be going any farther with this series.
